Vacation Homework 12/27/2011
I hope you all had a great holiday! As I stated on Friday, homework over the break is: 10th Grade- 1. Read through chapter 8 in To Kill A Mockingbird 2. Do the worksheet I gave to you on Friday 3. Choose and independent reading project as outlined below for the 9th Grade. 9th Grade- #1 -You need to fill out the supporting details on your essay worksheet. Pick two myths that support your position on the topic "Are the Gods benefactors of mankind or it's tormentors?" . This is a 5 paragraph essay, you need to have support from both myths in each paragraph. The supporting detail on your sheet can be a quote from the book, a reference to a story in the book, or one of the videos (please mark the video URL and the time on the film you reference). #2- Independent Reading- You have 3 options for the independent reading project. First you can choose to do another postcard, another option is a movie poster for your book. The last option is emailing me a business letter telling me what you like/dislike about the book and any of your reflections. Below is a model you can use for a business letter 3 Comments Homework 12/21 12/21/2011

9th Grade you are doing a Venn Diagram of the Norse vs the Greek Gods. Use the embedded video below for information on Norse Mythology. We watched roughly 20 minutes of this in class, which leave 25 minutes for you to view at home or on a mobile device. You do not have to watch the entire video, the point is to find 10 ways that Norse Mythology parallels and contrasts Greek. So please list 10 for each category. Here is the link to the video if you would rather watch it on Youtube If you need a reminder of the Venn Diagram please look below 10th Grade Homework 12/19 12/19/2011

Hi kids. Here is the homework assignment for the weekend: 10th Grade- Read chapter four of To Kill a Mockingbird and prepare for a quiz on Monday. The quiz will include previous vocabulary words and themes that we have discussed dealing with racial tensions and the Jim Crow South. You can find the link to the audio file here . 9th Grade- You will have a quiz on Monday regarding Hercules and Greek heroes. You may simply watch the video we started in class and take notes on the 12 deeds that Hercules must perform and what they signify for mankind. Keep in mind how Greek heroes differ from our modern day heroes -- sacrifice. The video is embedded below. Hercules! Hercules! & Homework 12/15/2011
9th Grade Homework: Write a paragraph on a 'modern-day' hero. The hero can be someone you know, or whom you have heard of via the news or the Internet. When all else fails you can Google "Modern Day Heroes" Here is my hero, Amy Hawkins. Getting to the theme for today, there are strong differences between Greek heroes and what 'we' consider to be 'real-life' heroes. As my classes pointed out, sacrifice is a key quality for the 'modern day' hero. In Amy's case, she sacrificed her safety to protect her children from the house falling on top of them. When a F4 tornado hit their home, Amy rushed her children to the basement and used her body to shield them from the falling rubble of her house. Greek heroes are almost always on a quest that will solve a problem they are dealing with. More often than not, these problems revolve around displeasing the Gods in some way. Hence, the Greek hero is on a mission that is self-motivated rather than a mission to help someone else. Now the story of Hercules, If you did not get an opportunity to see it in class please watch it and take notice of the 12 deeds and the symbolism of them. This movie is 44 minutes long. 10th Grade Vocabulary Homework 12/15/2011
