Welcome to English 9
This is a full year course. Its purpose is to provide the student with an overview of the following genres of literature: short story, poetry, drama, Greek mythology and the novel. Within each genre student define the key concepts and terms affiliated with each unit, The course provides a foundation of literature, writing skills, reading comprehension skills, critical thinking skills to prepare them for further advanced study of English.
All students will research, analyze, collaborate, create papers and digital projects that represent their understanding of class topics.
Independent Reading is an integral and ongoing activity throughout the year. Students are required to read books of their choice, through out the year, assignments and rubrics will be provided. It is Valhalla’s goal to foster a love of reading by permitting students to select books and choose among a variety of projects to complete for assessment.
**It would be very useful for the research project for each student to have a Gmail account so that I may be able to check on student progress and collaborate on the actual document. If parents would prefer their children not have an email; a suitable work-around is for the parent to create a Gmail account that the student can use only for the purposes of the research paper, but the account belongs to the parent.
